Navratri is observed for over 9 days during the month of Ashvin, or Ashvina (usually September-October) and ends with the Dussehra celebration on the 10th day. The festival is celebrated all over the country with different names.
North Indian celebrate by worshipping the idols of Goddess Durga. Pre-pubescent girls are worshipped as a symbol of goddess Durga. People in Bengal celebrate these nine days in decorative 'pandals' where people visit to worship Goddess in a festive mood. In Gujarat, the nine nights of navratri are celebrated with a traditional dance form 'garba'.
The last day of Navratri is Dusshera, time to celebrate triumphs of good over evil, Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishsura. In many parts of India, Dussehra is marked as the victory of Lord Rama over demon-king Ravana.
